DESHLER, Ohio - Five youths were hurt, at least one seriously, yesterday when the car in which they were riding went off State Rt. 18 and rolled over several times in Henry County, northwest of here, the sheriff's office said.

The youths, all of whom were wearing seat belts, had just left Patrick Henry High School, deputies said.

Chelsey Carpenter, 11, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where she was in serious condition last night, a hospital spokesman said.

Driver Ashley Martin, 16, and passengers Brooke Martin, 14, Michael George, 16, and Kathleen George, 14, were taken to Henry County Hospital, Napoleon. A hospital spokesman declined to release their conditions.

Ashley Martin was eastbound on Route 18 just east of Henry County Road 5 about 3 p.m. when she attempted to pass a school bus, saw a car headed westbound, braked, and turned quickly to get back behind the bus, deputies said.

She lost control, and the car went off the south side of the road and rolled. It came to rest on its top, deputies said.
