ODNR tour showcases forest management

5/22/2006

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has opened a forest-management demonstration area at Maumee State Forest to stave off the threat of the invasive emerald ash borer.

ODNR has opened the Stewardship Trail as a self-guided walking tour that demonstrates examples of forest management techniques. The new Stewardship Trail was created with part of a $1 million grant from the U.S. Forest Service.

Emerald ash borer was found at Maumee State Forest in 2004. The new trail at the forest displays two areas where harvests have occurred that are designed to slow the spread of the insect.
