Oregon mayor taking position on county 911 planning panel

5/23/2006

Oregon Mayor Marge Brown will represent Lucas County's suburban cities on the county's 911 planning committee after Oregon City Council approved her appointment last night.

The Lucas County commissioners called a meeting of the 911 planning committee to amend a plan that would provide cell phone call-back numbers and location information.

Maumee City Council approved her appointment last week.

Also, Oregon council approved two measures that will continue the partnership the city has had with the Eastern Community YMCA on Pickle Road for at least a dozen years, council President Mike Sheehy said.

City residents will have access to the YMCA outdoor swimming pool this summer and senior citizens will continue to have the ability to participate in senior aquanastics, the senior exercise program, and other senior activities through Dec. 31.

In other action, council authorized Toledo Edison to install eight lights in the Spring View subdivision near Brown and Lallendorf roads, and in the Drake subdivision, located north of Seaman Road.

The cost of the installation and operation of the streetlights will be assessed to the property owners.

Council may also discuss a resolution that would ask voters to amend the city's charter regarding referendums at its next committee of the whole meeting on June 5.

According to the resolution, which Councilman Sandy Bihn suggested, two sections in the city's charter regarding referendums are "inartfully drafted" and "confusing for the public as well as awkward provisions for the city to comply with fully."
