READING, Mich. City officials are seeking to replace Mayor Jay Krauss, 77, who died Sunday of natural causes.

Mayor Krauss was elected to a four-year term in 2004. He previously had served on City Council since 1997.

Mayor Krauss, employed as a farmer, truck driver, and electrician, first worked for the city from 1967-71 as superintendent of public works.

Council is expected to appoint a replacement at its July meeting after officially declaring the vacancy at its June 13 meeting, City Manager Kim Blythe said.
