A man was hurt seriously yesterday when his motorcycle hit the back of a van that was stopped in the middle of Wheeling Street with its four-way flashers on while the driver was walking and delivering newspapers, Toledo police said.

Raymond Hoot was in serious condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after the accident about 5:40 a.m. in the 400 block of Wheeling, authorities said.

Mr. Hoot's age and address were unavailable last night.

The motorcycle glanced off a corner of the van, went down, slid across the road, and hit a no parking sign.

Mr. Hoot suffered a broken pelvis and road rash, Sgt. Paul Kerschbaum said.

The accident remains under investigation, the sergeant said.
