Oregon council clears land buy of 56 acres

6/13/2006

Oregon City Council last night authorized the mayor and finance director to purchase 56 acres bordering the city s recreation complex to ensure room for expansion.

Council also authorized city officials to take out a loan for up to 10 years at 4.67 percent interest to pay for the property that costs $950,000, Finance Director Jim Austermiller said.

Both measures were approved with a 6-0 vote. Councilman Mike Seferian was absent.

Council wanted to purchase the land, which is just east of the William P. Coontz Complex off Seaman Road, for future recreation or city needs.

I think this action solidifies the future expansion and integrity of the city s recreation department, Councilman Matt Szollosi said.
