GIBSONBURG, Ohio - An Elmore couple was hospitalized yesterday after their car struck a deer in rural Sandusky County, went off the road, struck a utility pole, and flipped onto its top, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The driver, Glenda Drewyor, 57, was taken by medical helicopter to Medical University of Ohio Medical Center, where her condition was not available.

Her husband, Arthur, 59, who was in the front passenger seat, initially was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital and then transferred to MUO Medical Center. His condition also was not available.

A second passenger, the couple's grandson, Ethan Gerding, 2, of Tiffin, who was in a rear child safety seat, was treated at the Fremont hospital.

Mrs. Drewyor was driving south on Washington Township Road 74 near Washington Township Road 59, a mile southeast of Gibsonburg, about 2:45 p.m. when the deer ran onto the road, troopers at the patrol's Fremont post said.

The car struck the animal and briefly went off the west side of road. The car came back onto the road, Mrs. Drewyor apparently over-corrected, and it went off the eastern edge of the road where it struck the pole and the car overturned, troopers said.
