Perrysburg OKs site on U.S. 20 for Wal-Mart

6/30/2006

The Perrysburg Planning Commission approved the site plan for the Wal-Mart Supercenter planned for U.S. 20 in Perrysburg Township last night.

The commission s 5-2 vote put several conditions on the site plan as submitted.

Commission members Mary Krueger and Becky Williams voted against the site plan.

The 217,572-square-foot store is planned for 35 acres along U.S. 20 off Simmons Road.

Conditions included making the access from U.S. 20 onto a new public road right-in, right-out only. Wal-Mart officials also agreed to reduce the number of parking spots to 965, the minimum allowed by the township, from 998.

They agreed to several changes to the facade, including two additional raised parapets on the roof and putting canopies or awnings and street furnishings in three places.

City administration had requested making all parking aisles two-way and adding an east-west drive through the parking lot, but those were not included in the final recommendations.

The site plan required city approval because the store will receive municipal utilities.

In other business, the commission approved a preliminary site plan for an adult independent living community off of Simmons Road in Perrysburg Township, which will receive city utilities.

The commission also agreed to allow FiberTower of San Francisco to put microwave dishes on a wireless tower at Perrysburg Junior High School owned by Global Signal of Sarasota, Fla.
