Zoo sets meeting tonight on proposed rezoning

7/5/2006

The Toledo Zoo is holding an informational meeting at 7 tonight for residents who live on or near Amherst Drive to discuss the zoo s upcoming rezoning proposal.

The meeting is to be held in the zoo s lodge.

At the request of the city, zoo board members are planning to apply to rezone the entire zoo to institutional campus, according to Andi Norman, the zoo s spokesman.

Currently, the zoo is a hodge-podge of different zoning categories, some of which no longer exist. The goal is to have the zoo fall under one zoning category, Ms. Norman said.

There are no plans to make any additions or expansions to the zoo. Any projects will be within the outline of the zoo, such as renovating the aquarium and the elephant area, Ms. Norman said.

Board members will appear before the Toledo Plan Commission later this month.
