Man killed in crash of motorcycle

A South Toledo man was killed yesterday in a motorcycle accident in the 2400 block of Broadway, and police are investigating whether he crashed after trying to avoid a vehicle pulling out from a side street.

Ari R. Baer, Sr., 29, of 1113 Harding Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene about 3 a.m. Dr. Cynthia Beisser, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said there was no indication he was hit by a vehicle. A final ruling on his death is pending toxicology tests.

Mr. Baer was riding south at high speed when he lost control and went off the right side of the road. He hit two viaduct pillars and was thrown from the bike, which traveled more than 200 feet uphill, police said.

Police are investigating whether a vehicle pulled out from Lorain Street onto Broadway, causing Mr. Baer to make an evasive move before the crash. They said he wasn't wearing a helmet and the cycle is registered to an East Toledo man.
