After two separate searches, the Oregon Board of Education last night hired a new treasurer.
The board voted unanimously to hire Jane Fruth, treasurer and chief financial officer of Fostoria City Schools. Mrs. Fruth has been in education for a dozen years.
She will begin her duties Aug. 1. The current treasurer, Dennis Butler, retires July 31.
Mrs. Fruth's annual salary of $85,147 will be prorated through Dec. 31, and her two-year contract will begin in 2007, Mr. Butler said.
The school board had been searching for a new treasurer since early 2006.
In April, the board hired Karen Dameron, treasurer of the Wauseon Exempted Village School District, but she turned down the job later that month before a contract was signed, forcing the district to reopen the treasurer's search.
