Perrysburg City Council freezes part of zone code

7/12/2006

New businesses along Louisiana Avenue in Perrysburg can have signs on their awnings that cover up to 23 percent of the surface area, after council put a moratorium on part of its zoning code last night.

The moratorium, which will last no later than Oct. 31, freezes the code's requirement that signs be no more than eight square feet.

Four signs on downtown awnings violate the city code despite having sign permits. The issue arose after a businessman asked for approval for larger lettering on his new awning.

In other business, council authorized a contract for $145,000 with ACP Visioning and Planning Ltd. of Columbus to update the city's comprehensive plan. It should be completed in 14 months.
