BOSTON Gov. Mitt Romney intensified his efforts to take control of the troubled Big Dig today as inspectors nearly quadrupled the number of potential ceiling bolt problems in the tunnel where a woman was killed by 12 tons of falling concrete.

The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority revealed at least 230 other points where bolts are separating from 3-ton concrete roof panels, an increase over earlier inspections that found 60 defects.

The earlier defects were enough for officials to order a sweeping review of every roadway, tunnel and bridge in Boston s entire highway system.
