N. Toledo woman hurt in collision

7/13/2006

A North Toledo woman was hurt seriously yesterday when a car collided head-on with her car in the 4400 block of Stickney Avenue, police said.

Vena Lampkin, 20, 533 Bronson Ave., was in serious condition in Toledo Hospital.

Her passenger, Jeremiah Mims, 25, of 215 Hausman St., was treated at the hospital.

The other driver, Donnell Caldwell, 37, of 3567 Stickney, whom police believe was intoxicated, was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Ms. Lampkin was northbound on Stickney about 12:20 a.m. when Mr. Caldwell's southbound car went left of center and collided head-on with her car. Ms. Lampkin had to be extricated from the wreckage, police said.

Mr. Caldwell got out of his car and allegedly tried to limp away but was located nearby by police. They said he refused to take a blood-alcohol test.

Mr. Mims was wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if Ms. Lampkin, who was driving with a suspended license, was wearing one, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed.
