Perrysburg Township to ask for 0.25-mill cemetery levy

7/19/2006

Perrysburg Township voters will be asked to approve a Fort Meigs Cemetery levy and a gas aggregation plan after the trustees voted last night to put the issues on the November ballot.

City voters are also expected to consider the cemetery levy. It must pass in both jurisdictions to be valid, township Administrator John Hrosko said.

The five-year, 0.25-mill operating levy would help the cemetery board pay down a note for a recent land purchase and would pay operating costs. Mr. Hrosko said it would cost less than $10 a year for the owner of a $100,000 house. Exact figures were not available last night.

The gas aggregation plan would allow township residents and small businesses who are served by Columbia Gas to join a buying consortium that could save about 4 or 5 percent on gas. Others in the aggregation include Toledo, Northwood, and Lake Township.

In other business, the trustees approved paying up to $1,400 to Reveille Ltd. of Columbus to help work out conflicts between the zoning codes of the township and the city of Perrysburg. Last week, representatives of the two entities met to talk about the issues. Those at the meeting were Wood County Prosecutor Ray Fischer; Carl Timm, chairman of the city planning commission; Mayor Nelson Evans; city Administrator John Alexander; council President Joe Lawless; Councilman Tim McCarthy, chairman of the planning and zoning committee; Bob Mack, chairman of the trustees; and Mr. Hrosko.
