Findlay fire chief plans retirement

FINDLAY - City Fire Chief Roy DeVore plans to retire in mid-January after more than 28 years with the fire department.

Safety Director Eileen Bensen said yesterday the city hopes to name his successor in early October so the new chief can serve a three-month apprenticeship under Chief DeVore.

Chief DeVore, 50, joined the department as a firefighter in 1978 and became chief 16 years ago. Ms. Bensen said he was the youngest fire chief in Ohio until Toledo named Michael Bell chief later that year.
