4th speculative building set for industrial park in Tiffin

TIFFIN - The city's economic development agency breaks ground this week for its fourth speculative building project that will be set in an industrial park on Tiffin's northwest side.

The Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. will begin work Thursday on a 42,000-square-foot structure in Eagle Rock Business Park, where Toledo Molding and Die and another firm are located, Karen Bowers, the agency's director of economic development, said Friday.

The state of Ohio is providing $800,000, split as a loan and a grant, to help construct the facility.

Economic development organizations use speculative buildings to provide an empty, ready-to-move-in building to entice companies to locate in their communities.

Interest has been high for such buildings in Tiffin, Ms. Bowers said. Two other such projects were snapped up before the economic development agency could complete them.

The agency has been instrumental in filling North Star Industrial Park, an older industrial park north of town of State Rt. 53.

She predicted the new building, which will be part of a 130-acre industrial park, won't remain empty long. "We've been getting a lot of inquiries for space," she said.
