Troopers offering tips for safe motorcycling

VAN WERT, Ohio Troopers with the Van Wert post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are offering safety tips to newly licensed motorcycle riders at 9 a.m. Friday at the post, 10234 Van Wert-Decatur Rd.

Troopers say they hope to discuss safe riding practices with novice riders in a bid to cut the motorcycle accident rate. They also will try to be available at driver s license exam stations during motorcycle testing times to discuss training, safety equipment, and riding sober.

Last year, Ohio had 177 motorcycle fatalities, an increase of 30 percent from 2004. So far this year, Ohio has recorded 61 fatal crashes.
