Public hearings set for Hancock sales tax hike

7/28/2006

FINDLAY Hancock County commissioners yesterday scheduled two public hearings next month where residents can offer input on a proposed 0.25-percent increase in the county s sales tax.

The hearings will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 and 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the county s agricultural service center on County Road 140.

Commissioners are considering asking voters in November to approve a permanent sales tax increase that would generate about $2.5 million a year for general operations of county government. A two-year sales tax hike earmarked for criminal justice failed in November, 2005.
