Road work to slow traffic on Starr Ave., Wheeling St.

9/15/2006

Construction at the intersection of Wheeling Street and Starr Avenue in Oregon will slow down traffic for about three weeks, starting next week.

Gerken Paving Inc., of Napoleon, will be working on resurfacing Wheeling from Randall to Northvale drives and on Starr from the west corporation limit to Whittlesey Avenue. They'll also be installing handicap ramps and replacing the existing traffic signals.

The contractors plan to work on the roads from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day until early October. Because of the nature of the construction, there will be just one lane of traffic in each direction and all vehicles must be removed from the street during construction hours or they will be towed, said officials with the city's public service department.

Access to driveways will be available at all times except while the paving operation is in front of the drive.

The city is paying for the project through a $300,000 Transportation Improvement Project Grant through the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.
