Scrap metal firm to pay $10,500 Ohio EPA fine

9/15/2006

OmniSource, a scrap metal processor at 5130 North Detroit Ave., has agreed to pay a $10,500 fine to settle outstanding pollution violations.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday that the company will limit dust emissions by keeping its paved roadways and parking areas cleaner.

It was cited for air pollution violations on several occasions between December, 2003, and February, 2006, the agency said.

Road dust is a source of particulate matter that can damage the heart and lungs if inhaled.
