Used-oil hauler to pay $16,500 fine in waste case

NORWALK, Ohio Heartland Petroleum LLC, a business here that hauls used oil, has agreed to pay a $16,500 fine to settle violations pertaining to hazardous waste.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said at least nine of 82 containers Heartland accepted on March 29 and April 1, 2005, had unauthorized hazardous waste.

The company accepted the waste from Elbert Building Co. s facility in Elyria, Ohio.

Heartland was cited for storing hazardous waste without a permit, plus other violations, the agency said.
