A Swanton man was hurt seriously yesterday in a three-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike just east of the Reynolds Road interchange, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Jason Hogan, 20, was flown to the University Medical Center with serious injuries, troopers at the patrol's Swanton post said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information on a patient by that name.

Mr. Hogan was eastbound on the turnpike about 8 a.m. yesterday when his pickup hit the rear of a tractor trailer being driven in front of him in the driving lane by Sylvester Dickson, 37, of Chicago. He and his passenger, Edward Moody, 61, of Chicago, were not hurt, troopers said.

After the collision, the pickup slid into the passing lane, where it was hit by an SUV being driven by Julie Schudel, 29, of Swanton, who was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said.

The eastbound lanes of the turnpike were closed for about 30 minutes. All traffic lanes were reopened within two hours of the crash, troopers said.
