3 injured in MedCorp ambulance crash

HOYTVILLE, Ohio Three people were hurt this afternoon when a MedCorp ambulance transporting a patient on a private run went off State Rt. 18 and into a ditch off the south side of the highway west of Hoytville, the Wood County Sheriff s office said.

The driver, Christopher Johnson, of Toledo, and a patient in the ambulance, whose name was not released because family had not been notified of the incident, were flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, deputies said. The attendant in the ambulance, Anthony Sopko, of Toledo, was taken to Wood County Hospital.

Their conditions were not immediately available.

The ambulance was westbound on Route 18 about 1:10 p.m. when it crossed the center line and went off the south side of the highway near Roundhead Road, about a mile east of the Wood-Henry line, deputies said.

The crash remains under investigation.
