Korean War-era warhead found in Toledo cellar

Donald Brown was doing some cleanup work in his basement this week when he came across an item that needed more than a little dusting: a rusty Korean War-era anti-tank warhead.

Police were called to Mr. Brown s home at 426 Victoria Place, northeast of downtown Toledo, on Thursday afternoon when the ordnance was discovered.

Mr. Brown, 52, told authorities that the object has been in the basement for at least 20 years but he never thought anything about it until recently.

Bomb experts determined it was a Korean-War-era anti-tank warhead without propellant, making it more than 50 years old.

The warhead was leaking a substance that police believed was part of its chemical fuse. The device was rendered safe, but because of possible instability it was taken to the police bomb bunker.
