A 43-year-old man was injured early this morning in a one-vehicle crash in Ottawa County where drugs and alcohol were a factor, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Troy C. Cowan, 2723 Worth St. in Oregon, was taken via medical helicopter to Medical University of Ohio Hospital after the crash that occurred at 2:30 a.m. His condition was not available this morning.

Mr. Cowan was eastbound on Curtice East-West Road in Allen Township when he failed to stop at the intersection at Fostoria Road on the border of Wood County, went off the east side of the road, and struck a tree, troopers from the OHP s Sandusky post said.

When the crash was reported nearly 90 minutes later, Mr. Cowan had to be freed from the vehicle by mechanical means before he could be transported to the hospital, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The OHP was assisted at the scene by the Ottawa County Sheriff s Department, the Allen-Clay Township Fire Department, and the Northwood Police Department.
