Perrysburg approves entertainment zone

10/5/2006

Perrysburg City Council has unanimously approved the creation of entertainment districts at two retail, restaurant, and business complexes on State Rt. 25 that would enable future tenants to receive liquor licenses in a timely fashion.

Restaurants and bars that open at Levis Commons and Harbortown Place can now apply for liquor licenses through the state of Ohio despite a state law that restricts the number of licenses issued to a community until 2010, when the next census is taken.

Robin Whitney, who represents Levis developer Dillan Development Corp., said the state will issue one license per five acres of an entertainment district to a maximum of 15.

In other business, members of council approved:

•An easement license for Fort Meigs Memorial State Park to resume construction of a 4-foot sign near the park's entrance. Work on the sign was halted in August when it was learned the project spilled into the public right of way on West River Road and was too close to an 8-inch water line.

Representatives from the park and the Ohio Historical Society agreed to have the timber retaining wall surrounding the sign moved 10 feet away from the water line.

•A contract with Peterson Construction Co. of Holgate, Ohio, to complete Phase I of the Perrysburg Wastewater Treatment Plant. Peterson's bid of $3,234,000 was the lowest of the four bids the city received.
