HILLSDALE - The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to spend $11.8 million on road improvements in Hillsdale County next year, including relocating part of M-99 in the city.
The state will spend nearly $5 million on M-99 in the city of Hillsdale, rebuilding the highway near Lewis Street to Bacon Street.
The highway will be relocated on the west side of the city hall, and a sidewalk that separates the highway from an adjacent street south of the city hall will be removed.
A $250,000 streetscape improvement and a new parking area between the post office and the city hall are also part of the project, highway officials said.
In 2009, the south end of M-99 will be redone in the city.
Last month, crews finished rebuilding a 1,500-foot section of M-99, adding a fifth lane at M-99 and Fayette Street.
MDOT will spend nearly $6 million dollars to resurface nearly eight miles of US-12 from Moscow Road east to the Lenawee County line.
The state's plans were outlined earlier this week at a traffic planning meeting hosted by the Hillsdale County road commission.
