A crash in East Toledo at Oak Street and Navarre Avenue yesterday left at least three people injured.

The incident began about 12:20 p.m. with a pursuit in Oregon, when police began chasing two men in a pickup after receiving a report about a coat theft from the Meijer store at 1725 South Wheeling St., Oregon Sgt. Tim Zale said.

Oregon police dropped out when the fleeing vehicle crossed into East Toledo on Navarre, he said.

The driver ran a red light at Oak. His vehicle collided with a southbound car on that street, plus an eastbound pickup on Navarre, Toledo Sgt. Mike McGee said.

The two men were captured when neighbors pointed them out. One hid under a deck in the 800 block of Oak; the other was at a residence several blocks west on Navarre.

Tisha Vazquez, 34, of 827 Oak said she saw the driver try to hide in her neighbor's yard. "He rolled out of the car, fell in the intersection, and then took off right past me. I guess he was hurt," Ms. Vazquez said.

Sergeant McGee said the two suspects and at least one other person were taken to hospitals for treatment. Sergeant McGee said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

A police report identified the fleeing driver as Michael Gleis, 3611 Lake Pointe Drive, Northwood, and his passenger as Ronald O'Banner, 1854 Booth Ave. Ages were not available.

Mr. Gleis was in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in serious condition, while Mr. O'Banner was being treated in St. Charles Medical Center, where his condition was unavailable. Sergeant Zale said the pursuit took police from Meijer onto Wheeling, Pickle Road, Ansonia Street, and Dearborn Avenue, back to Wheeling, through the Walgreens store parking lot at Wheeling and Navarre, back to Ansonia, through residential yards to Grasser Street, and then to Navarre.
