FOSTORIA Police Chief John McGuire pleaded not guilty in Seneca County Common Pleas Court his afternoon to four counts of falsification of and tampering with records related to his job application a year ago.

Mr. McGuire, 37, wearing a tan suit, was released on his own recognizance after appearing before Judge Michael Kelbley. He faces two counts of tampering with records, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, and two counts of falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

He was indicted Oct. 18 after a special prosecutor investigated allegations that the new chief lied on his resume and his application. No court date has been set.
