FREMONT - Three people were flown to Toledo hospitals yesterday after a three-vehicle accident on Port Clinton Road near Elizabeth Street just north of here in Sandusky County's Sandusky Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Bruce Lloyd and his passenger, Perry Simmons, were flown to University Medical Center, where Mr. Lloyd was in critical condition and Mr. Simmons was stable, troopers at the patrol's Fremont post said.

Andrew L. Nino, 27, of Fremont, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Lloyd was driving a van south on Port Clinton about 3 p.m. when a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Mr. Nino crossed the center line and hit the van head-on. Mr. Nino's vehicle overturned and slid off the road, troopers said.

Another SUV driven southbound on Port Clinton by Evan Lippert, 23, of Fremont, swerved to avoid the Lloyd vehicle, but sideswiped it and also went off the road. He was treated at Fremont Memorial Hospital.
