OAK HARBOR, Ohio The Davis-Besse nuclear power plant will be off-line for a week or more, starting today, while it undergoes maintenance, a spokesman for the plant s operator announced yesterday.

Maintenance crews are scheduled to replace three valves on the plant s pressurizer, inspect piping in the non-nuclear part of the facility, and conduct routine electrical and instrument tests.

Richard Wilkins, a spokesman for FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co., could not say exactly how long the plant would be off-line but said the period could be a week or weeks.
