BLUFFTON

Darla Schumm, assistant professor of religious studies at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., will pre sent Cow Comfort, Pig Palaces, and Chicken Coops: Rethinking Mennonite Conceptions of Community as an Ecological Response at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Founders Hall at Bluffton University. Her presentation is free and open to the public.

• The Bluffton University music department will present its 111th production of Handel s Messiah at 4 p.m. Sunday in Founders Hall. The event is free and open to the public although a free will offering will be taken.

BOWLING GREEN

The annual Old Home Holiday Tour at the Wood County Historical Museum continues through Dec. 17 at the museum on County Home Road just east of the U.S. 6/I-76 interchange. The museum, which is decked out for the holidays, is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. A $2 donation is suggested.

• Volunteers are needed to help with native seed cleaning from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve at East River and White roads in Perrysburg Township. Register at wcparks.org.

• The public is invited to the swearing-in ceremony for Wood County Commissioner Tim Brown at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the atrium of the Wood County Courthouse complex.

• Nearly 400 luminaries will light the trails of the Simpson Garden Park on Wintergarden Road from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. BG by Candlelight is a free family event. Inside the Simpson Building, there will be a community sing-along led by Andy Householder as well as hot chocolate and cookies and an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

• Learn about the birds that stay in Ohio for the winter and how they can find food, water, and shelter in your backyard at 10 a.m. Saturday at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve. Register at wcparks.org.

FINDLAY

The student nursing association at Owens Community College s Findlay campus will be collecting donations of toys beginning today through Dec. 13 at the campus on Bright Road. The group will wrap the toys and deliver them to children at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Wood County Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, and Fremont Memorial Hospital.

• More than 300 students will graduate from the University of Findlay during fall commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex on campus. Richard Anderson, chairman of the board for The Andersons Inc., will give the commencement address.

• The Hancock Historical Museum will sponsor its 13th annual Christmas Victorian Dinner at the home of Grant and Susan Russel, 1200 South Main St., at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations must be made in advance by calling the museum, 419-423-4433. Proceeds suppot the museum.

FREMONT

The Sandusky County Park District will teach children age 5 and under about birds and how to make a pinecone birdfeeder at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Countryside Park, possibly outdoors. Additionally, a hike celebrating the park district s 33rd anniversary will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, also at the park. Registration is required for the children s event only.

LAKESIDE

The American Red Cross will offer free blood pressure screenings from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today at Danbury Senior Center, 8470 East Harbor Rd.

MORENCI, Mich.

Morenci Garden Club s holiday home and church tour will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at Stair Public Library and at Gambles-Johnson s Hardware for $8 in advance and for $10 at the day of the tour.

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP

Owens Community College will offer area elementary and junior high school students an express cheerleading clinic from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area campus on Oregon Road.

PORT CLINTON

The American Red Cross will hold a class on pet first aid from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today in the first-floor conference center at Magruder Hospital. The cost is $25, which includes a handbook.

• The American Red Cross will offer free blood pressure screenings from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ida Rupp Public Library, 310 Madison St.

TOLEDO

The Rotary Club of Toledo will hold an annual meeting and foundation presentation when it meets at noon today at Zenobia Shrine, 1511 Madison Ave.

• Toledo Bishop Leonard Blair and Mayor Carty Finkbeiner will attend an inauguration of the reconstruction of Madonna Homes, 722 Huron St., at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The renovations began Nov. 18 and are expected to take two years to complete.

• A 5K run and walk promoting healthy connections and fighting against addictions will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Pearson Park.

• Pearl Harbor veteran Jim Gilbert will discuss Pearl Harbor Before and After when the American Legion Toledo Post 335 has its luncheon meeting at noon Friday at Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th St.

Your Light Will Always Shine is the name of an annual candlelight vigil to be held by Mothers Against Drunk Driving at 4 p.m. Sunday at Church on the Rise, 3550 Crocker Rd.
