MONROE The Monroe County Intermediate School District will receive a $160,000 grant from the Early Childhood Investment Corp. tomorrow.

The nonprofit corporation helps Michigan children arrive at kindergarten with the proper early childhood education and care.

The grant is part of a $3.15 million award to 21 intermediate schools districts and regional education service agencies across the state.

The money will fund planning and/or implementation of the corporation s local Great Start Collaboratives, which coordinate community resources and support families and children under 5 years old.

About 70 percent of Michigan s poor and disadvantaged youth live in counties that have Great Start Collaboratives.
