Scattered power outages strike downtown Toledo, east side and Oregon

12/15/2006

As many as 3,000 Toledo Edison customers in downtown Toledo, East Toledo, and Oregon experienced scattered power outages and power surges this morning.

The Wings Station, a new restaurant at 614 Adams St. between Huron and Erie streets, reported it was temporarily closed by a power outage. Across Adams Street, Charter One Bank's downtown location experienced a temporary loss of power.

The Blade also had a power surge around 9:20 a.m. today that knocked out some lights temporarily.

However, Toledo Edison said it first received reports of outages at 9:47 a.m. All power was restored by 10:28 a.m., said spokesman Reggie Strauss.

The outages were believed to have been the result of a substation problem near the East Toledo-Oregon border. Service was restored when power was rerouted around the substation, he said.
