Walbridge councilman steps down

12/22/2006

For the second time in two years, a Walbridge village councilman has given up his council seat.

Jerry Eversman submitted his letter of resignation to council during Wednesday night's regular meeting. In it, he said he plans to move to Oregon. His official resignation date is Dec. 31.

Mr. Eversman, a self-employed businessman, served on council from 1992 to 1996, and again from 2001 until he resigned in September, 2004, because he had intended to move out of the village at that time.

He then ran as a write-in candidate in November, 2005, for one of the four vacant council seats and won.

Council President Ron Liwo said he is accepting applications and letters of interest from Walbridge residents who would like to be considered for the final three years of Mr. Eversman's term.

Council has until Jan. 30 to name a replacement. After that, it becomes Mayor Dan Wilczynski's responsibility to appoint someone to the seat.
