Line rupture cuts gas off in Luckey

LUCKEY, Ohio - Columbia Gas of Ohio employees were working last night to restore service to nearly 400 village residents after a construction crew ruptured a gas line here yesterday afternoon, authorities said.

The 3-inch steel medium pressure line on Locust Street near Luckey Road was ruptured just before 4 p.m. Gas was shut off to the village about 5:15 p.m., affecting about 390 people, utility spokesman Chris Kozak said.

The gas line was repaired about 8:30 p.m., but employees of the gas company still needed to shut off the gas to each home, purge the lines, and then revisit the homes to turn on their gas service, Mr. Kozak said.

The American Red Cross set up a temporary shelter at Eastwood High School.
