New board member is sworn in for Metroparks

12/30/2006

Scott Savage was sworn in yesterday as the newest member of the Toledo Area Metroparks board of commissioners, marking the first change on the three-member board in more than a decade.

Mr. Savage, who is founder and president of SJS Investment Consulting, Inc., joins board members Jack Gallon and Larry Sykes.

He replaces Susan Horvath, who is retiring from the position after 14 years.

The board of park commissioners is made up of volunteers and is the governing body of the Metroparks. Since the board s inception in 1928, only 19 people have served on it.

The board has been active in recent years purchasing property to preserve open space as part of a voter - approved levy in 2003. More than 1,500 acres of undeveloped land have been purchased and preserved by the Metroparks using money from the levy.
