Ridgeville Township receives grant for fire department

RIDGEVILLE CORNERS, Ohio A Henry County fire department has received a federal grant to help pay for new gear for its 31-member, all-volunteer staff.

U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor (R., Tiffin) announced yesterday that the Ridgeville Township Fire Department would receive $43,078 through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security s Office of Grants and Training to be used for training, firefighting, and personal protective equipment, vehicles, and modifications to stations and facilities.

We ve never bought all new gear, said Dexter Benecke, Ridge ville Township fire chief. We re replacing some of the real old stuff.

Chief Benecke said the department will use the money to buy new gear, safety devices, and air tanks for firefighters.
