Parks groups honor former Rep. Deering

SANDUSKY Two parks organizations have honored former state Rep. Fred Deering (D., Monroeville) for his work on projects involving land conservation and nature, recreational, and historical sites.

The Erie Metropark District announced that the National Recreation and Parks Association gave Mr. Deering its 2006 Outstanding Board-Commission Member Award.

The Ohio Parks and Recreation Association chose Mr. Deering for its 2006 Outstanding Leadership Award in the citizen-board member category.

Mr. Deering, a farmer, spent 51 years as a state representative, Erie County commissioner, Erie MetroParks commissioner, and Perkins school board member.
