ADRIAN - An Adrian man died Sunday in an Ypsilanti, Mich., hospital, two days after he was involved in an accident on U.S. 223 near M-52 that ended in the Staples parking lot in Adrian, Michigan State Police said.

David McComb, 66, was taken initially to Bixby Medical Center, Adrian, then transferred to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti, where he died.

Troopers said it appears Mr. McComb lost control of his vehicle due to a medical condition.

Mr. McComb was northbound on M-52, and turned west onto U.S. 223 about 2:30 p.m. Friday when his vehicle went off the road, through an ornamental fence, over a small tree, and into the Staples parking lot, where his vehicle hit five parked vehicles, troopers said.

Trooper Amy McMullen was in the Staples store at the time. She rushed outside, determined Mr. McComb had no pulse, and performed CPR until the Adrian Fire Department arrived.
