Car, ambulance collide at St. Routes 163, 53

PORT CLINTON A Berlin Heights, Ohio, teenager was seriously hurt when his vehicle and an ambulance collided Friday night on State Rt. 163 and State Rt. 53 east of Port Clinton in Ottawa County s Portage Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Alexander Conley, 17, was flown to University Medical Center after the crash that occurred about 9:25 p.m. Friday, troopers at the patrol s Sandusky post said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information on a patient by his name.

Mr. Conley was northbound on Route 53 as the Marblehead Ambulance was headed east on Route 163 with its lights and siren activated, responding to a call. The ambulance driver, Gordon Waugh, 44, of Marblehead drove through the red light and collided with Mr. Conley s vehicle in the intersection, troopers said.

The ambulance then struck a vehicle being driven by Holley Milanov, 36, of Port Clinton that was stopped at the red light on westbound Route 163. The ambulance then went off the north side of the road and came to rest in a restaurant parking lot, troopers said.

There were four passengers from Marblehead in the ambulance: Dean Heberlein, 36, and Christie Heberlein, 32, who were not hurt, and Megan Hayner, 28, and Jane Podsiadlo, 50, who were taken to Magruder Hospital with minor injuries.

Mr. Conley s passenger, Allison Dziak, 17, of Marblehead also was taken to Magruder Hospital for minor injuries. Ms. Milanov s passengers, Jordan Below, 16, of Port Clinton and Brandon Floro, 15, of Flint, Mich., were not hurt.
