Family Court Center set to reopen

4/10/2007

The Lucas County Family Court Center will reopen today after work was completed to restore power to the downtown building s electrical system.

Four contract employees who were making upgrades to the electrical system in the building at 429 North Michigan St. were hurt Friday in an explosion in the basement.

The fire caused about $200,000 damage and hindered repairs to the electrical system being done by GEM Industrial Inc. to replace equipment damaged last August when lightning struck the building.

Ron Donnal, business development director for GEM, a Lake Township-based electrical firm, said electricity was restored to the court building yesterday morning.

However, Mr. Donnal said the blaze prevented electricians from installing equipment damaged by the lightning strike and the work will be completed later.

Yesterday s closing affected all departments in the Family Court Center, including courts for the Domestic Relations Division.

David Mann, public affairs liaison for the county commissioners, said that anyone who was scheduled for court yesterday is asked to call the assignment commissioner, 419-213-6854, to reschedule.
