Three Monroe County students received top honors in the 15th Congressional District Arts Competition, U.S. Rep. John Dingell s office said yesterday.

Rebekah Smeltzer of Jefferson High School in Monroe took top honors. Erin Greener of Summerfield High School in Petersburg took second place, and Michelle Johnson, also of Summerfield High, finished third.

Miss Smeltzer s winning work will be displayed in the corridor connecting the U.S. Capitol to the Cannon House Office Building for one year starting this June. She and a parent or guardian will be invited to Washington for the exhibition s opening ceremony, the congressman said.

Artwork from Miss Greener and Miss Johnson will be displayed in Mr. Dingell s Washington office through June, 2008. Forty-seven students from nine area high schools participated.
