Worker injured at Port Clinton school construction site
5/8/2007PORT CLINTON A Columbus man remains in serious condition at the Ohio State University Medical Center after he was shot in the neck with a nail gun yesterday while doing construction work at Port Clinton Middle School, authorities said.
Joshua N. Hartwell, 25, was shot with the air nail gun just before 5 p.m. while working on decking at the school. The 3-inch nail entered the right side of his neck and was completely lodged inside, Port Clinton police said.
He was initially taken to Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, and then transferred to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he was admitted in critical condition.
He underwent surgery there last night and was then transferred to the university hospital in Columbus, police said.
Brian Davis, 36, of Valley View, Ohio, was working on the decking at the school with Mr. Hartwell and had just finished nailing some decking when he turned around and accidentally bumped into Mr. Hartwell, who was bent over. That s when the nail gun fired into Mr. Hartwell s neck, police said.
Mr. Hartwell was able to speak to police when he was at Magruder Hospital and told them that it was an accident and he has never had any problems with Mr. Davis.
