Children, driver escape serious injury as bus strikes pole

6/1/2007

A Catholic Club bus with a driver and two children on board hit a utility pole at Ashland and Woodruff avenues in central Toledo yesterday, authorities said.

The two children were transported to an undisclosed hospital for check-ups, but were not believed to be injured, said Sally Oberski, spokesman for the Toledo Catholic Diocese.

Mechanical failure is the suspected cause of the crash, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m.

"The driver did a very magnificent job of handling the bus. It could have gone into a building," Ms. Oberski said.
