Latino conference aimed at future leaders

6/2/2007

A Latino teen leadership conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in SeaGate Centre for the next generation of Latino leaders.

But the event is designed for any teen, said Sonia Troche, executive director of Adelante, the Latino Resource Center, which helped organize the event. Teen pregnancy, safety, and higher education will be among the topics covered.

Most of all, organizers hope participants realize people are interested in their success, Ms. Troche said.

The event is free and open to all teenagers.

From 7 to 11:30 tonight, the 11th annual Baile Latino a formal dance for high school students will be held in SeaGate Centre. The dance is free to leadership conference participants and $20 for others, but formal wear is required, Ms. Troche said.

Both events are sponsored by the City of Toledo Youth Commission and hosted by Adelante.
