Perrysburg narrows superintendent hunt

6/2/2007

Perrysburg's school board is expected to move a step closer to hiring a superintendent this morning.

Walter Edinger, the Perrysburg Exempted Village Board of Education President, said last night that he hopes the board will make plans for a third interview to be done next week with at least one of two candidates, if not both.

The school board held second interviews with two candidates Wednesday: Thomas Hosler II, superintendent of the Huron School District in New Boston, Mich., and Susan Lang, executive director of the Ohio Center for Essential School Reform.

Each spent about 12 hours in the district, touring buildings and meeting staff.

"My thought is the board will make a decision between these two," Mr. Edinger said. "But maybe not."

Any third interview is likely to be at the candidate's current workplace so members can visit on the candidate's "home turf," Mr. Edinger said.

Nineteen candidates applied to replace superintendent Mike Cline, who is resigning to become superintendent of the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in Mansfield, Ohio. He is expected to leave July 31. .

The board's superintendent search discussions are expected to be held behind closed doors today.

However, its discussions on the district's $29 million bond issue request, which voters denied in May and November, are to be held in open session in the board meeting at 11:30 a.m. at Cafe Marie in Perrysburg.
