Perrysburg board leans toward 1 candidate

Perrysburg s school board is expected to vote June 18 on hiring a new superintendent.

The board decided behind closed doors yesterday to conduct a third interview with an undisclosed candidate, said Walter Edinger, the Perrysburg Exempted Village Board of Education president.

Board members Gretchen Downs and Mark Schoenlein will arrange that interview at the candidate s current office, he said.

On Wednesday, board representatives held second interviews with two candidates: Thomas Hosler II, superintendent of the Huron School District in New Boston, Mich., and Susan Lang, executive director of the Ohio Center for Essential School Reform.

The June 18 meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Perrysburg Junior High School library.

Also at that meeting, the board of education is expected to further consider building-improvement plans, including several elementary classrooms that lack air conditioning and quickly heat up on hot days, Mr. Edinger said.

The district s requests for a $29 million bond issue failed in May and November.

The board discussed the possibility of asking voters a third time for a bond issue, but made no decisions yesterday. The filing deadline with the board of elections for this November s election is Aug. 23.
