The stack of the former Jefferson Smurfit Paper plant in Monroe is imploded,

above, and comes tumbling down, at left and below left, as local officials including Bill Braunlich, president of the Monroe County Historical Society, applaud, below.

The Homrich Co. of Monroe took down the stack and an adjacent water tower yesterday to kick off a restoration of the River Raisin Battlefield with an eye toward boosting its historic significance.
